CHRISTINE’S TRIP

TO GUADELOUPE, FRANCE

7 NIGHTS/5 STOPS

Caribbean nature and wildlife.

.

Christine, her husband, and their teenage daughter live in New York. They like to travel off the beaten path and love the outdoors and nature. They especially enjoy discovering different local cultures and populations. Christine loves the more intimate places and avoids crowded locations.

“ During the spring season, Christine and her family travelled to Guadeloupe. They were looking for a paradisiac destination that is not too touristy, easy to organise, and cheap. Guadeloupe was the perfect match. You benefit from the French infrastructure but still enjoying the Caribbean atmosphere and climate. They climbed a Volcano in the wildest part of the island, Basse-terre, spent some time in the island’s remote jungles, and niched in a cozy villa by the water in Grande Terre.»

DESHAIES-BASSE TERRE

50 km/ 50 min
Deshaies-Basse Terre
  • We slept in an ecolodge in a Tree Caban in the middle of a jungle forest. We had the Creole Casa Deshaies Tendacayou http://www.tendacayou.com The restaurant and the food is very good. You can easily cook yourself. There is a village where you can buy some food. We loved our open air bathroom. 15 min from the beaches
  • Walk in the surroundings in the village

Eat in small restaurants in Deshaies.

DESHAIES BASSE TERRE
TO TROIS RIVIÈRES

Trois Rivières
  • Guest house Diva chez Dora.  We selected a guest house close to the departure of the Volcano hike to La Soufrière.
  • We climbed the volcano La Soufrière. Unfortunately if was cold and rainy.
You don’t need a guide you can do it on your own As the volcano is still in activity, it is very interesting to watch it.

2 hours to walk up and 2 hours down. 4-5 hours in total.

TROIS-RIVIÈRES TO
ISLAND LES SAINTES

1 h by boat
Island les Saintes
  • We stayed at Hotel le bois joli Even though the rooms were nice and the location was perfect we did not appreciated the arrogant service. If we had to go back we would have searched for alternatives.
  • Just enjoyed the place, the beach and the hotel location at the seaside.

St-François Haute Terre
  • We rented an aqua lodge: a villa on the water. Really a great experience. You have your own little villa with your kitchen on the water: Aqua lodge
  • Kayak and paddle boards were available.
Small boat at your disposal to go to the port/harbor for some shopping.
You can cook yourself and buy food in the supermarket at the harbor Don’t forget you are in France You have all the products that you find in France.

ST-FRANÇOIS HAUTE TERRE TO
POINT À PITTRE

 35 km / 45 min
Point à Pittre
  • Canela beach hotel Our flight was early the next day so we stayed close to Point à Pitre. The hotel was just OK for a stop over. We are not expecting anything special.
  • We visited the Slave museum: Interactive museum with sound effects that makes you feel the horror of arriving by boat as a slave. We really liked the visit. Highly recommended .

GOOD TO KNOW

  • People are nice. They speak French.
  • Very Good food in restaurants Mix of French and Caribbean cuisine.
  • Easy to do for a long weekend from the US east coast.
  • South of Grande terre is the touristy part with the big beaches. Basse Terre is much wilder.
  • Not worth to stay longer in Point à Pitre.
